| What is the benefit of a not-for-profit community? |
Your money works for you alone. We reinvest our funds in ever-better services and amenities for Residents – not dividends for shareholders. |
| Do I have to give up my house and all my assets? |
No. That’s a myth. |
| Do you offer a refundable Entrance Fee? |
Yes. We not only offer a standard refund, but also 50% or 90% refundable options. Learn more about our unique financial advantages and how easy we make your transition to retirement life. Try us out with no obligation: Take advantage of our exclusive lease conversion offer. |
| Will moving to John Knox affect my income tax deductions? |
Yes. The IRS says that residents on our Extensive Benefit Option may deduct a portion of their Entrance Fee and monthly service fee from their income tax as medical expenses. We’ll provide you with the most current rulings each year. |
| Do you have a waiting list? |
No. |
| Do you allow pets? |
Yes, with prior approval and a $200, non-refundable pet fee. |
| Should I carry insurance on our household goods? |
Yes, we recommend residents carry insurance on their personal items and furnishings. |
| Are you a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC/Life Care)? |
Yes, we are a complete CCRC offering:
Independent Living
Assisted Living
Skilled Nursing
Assisted Living Memory Support
Secure Alzheimer’s care in Long-Term CARE Unit. |
| What is Life Care? |
It’s a contract to take care of you for life, ready with the right care the moment you need it. You pay for what you use, and only what you use, at a guaranteed 40% discount in Assisted Living and Long-Term Care. What’s more, you live without the fear of outliving your resources. Even if you lose all your assets, due to no fault of your own, we keep our promise. |
| Are all your health care services offered on campus? |
Yes. We have one-stop shopping for health care. What’s more, unlike other CCRCs, we don’t contract with outside vendors for health care services. We provide our own, a standard that has earned respect for more than 35 years. |
| Do you have skilled nursing rehab services? |
Yes. And we also offer them to people outside our community. |
| If I need Assisted Living or the Med Center, what is the charge? |
If you choose our Extensive Benefit Option, you will get guaranteed placement and a 40% discount on the published rate for services. If you choose our Fee-for-Service with Entrance Fee Option, you will get guaranteed placement at the published rate. If you choose a Lease Option, you pay Fee-for-Service for whatever services you may need on an availability basis. Residents have broad flexibility in choosing the healthcare plan that makes the most sense for them. |
| Can I still use my personal physician? |
Yes. Your personal physician is familiar with your medical records and continues to play a key role in your care. |
| Can I customize my residence? |
Of course. We not only let you choose floor plans and decor options; but we offer apartment home customization, i.e., knocking down walls between apartments to gain more room. The cost may be shared. |
| Is it possible to change apartments at some point? |
Yes, based on availability. If you choose a larger or smaller residence, we’ll adjust your fees accordingly. |
| Can I have guests stay in my apartment for a few days? |
Yes. There are no charges for short-term stays in your home. We also provide furnished guest apartments at a low daily rate. |
| Can I have a garden? |
Absolutely. Our beautiful 14-acre campus is rich with gardening space. |
| If I’m away from home, is there a reduction in meal costs? |
Yes. When you are away from home for 14 consecutive days or more, your discretionary dollar allowance – $250 plus of your monthly service fee – can be used not just for food, but for housekeeping and other services as well. Because John Knox offers this flexibility, you are able to plan in advance how you want to spend it. |
